Finally, a skate for big footed guys

Review by Humberto posted on 5/26/2016
I think my favorite part about this skate was just taking it out of the box and seeing a no frills skate, just completely black with a nice white felt tongue. I'm not a big fan of all the shiny accents, especially if they add too much silver.

The weight of the skate is very very light, however, thats not the only plus to this skate. The liner was plush and hydrophobic, ive never had a time with this skate where i was on the ice for more than two hours and i never once felt my feet getting wet. In fact my first couple of months i played two tournaments and these skates held up. with my previous skates i wore shot blockers and with these i took two full slap shots to the inner panel of the boot and felt absolutely nothing but a small sting. The material they use for these boots is called CURV composite and it allows for some solid flexibility while protecting the skate and keeping it from getting the awful creasing some boots suffer from.

The tongue is more of the classic type of bauer tongue you used to see on older skates with the inserts but still stiff/flexible enough to not hurt your feet and give you the dreaded lace bite, but stiff enough to protect from shots to the laces.

When you're skating you will also notice your stride is going to be a lot stronger, so you need to know the stiff ness plays a big factor in the "energy return" bauer claims on their boots, it happens, you feel the boot slightly flex and pop back to normal. If the skate feels too stiff for you doing this or you're coming from skate brands like Graf, i absolutely suggest that you skip the top lace loop for the freedom and movement but still keeping the protection and support. I know they claim they no longer have the "soft nexus boot" which is a good thing, the original nexus broke down on me within a few months. These keep the nice fit and "soft" feel but in a stiffer shell that you can appreciate longer.

Like is aid this is one of the widest bauer boots which is fantastic, Companies seem to be doing away with wide boots leaving us guys with huge feet in the out of luck category. Thankfully this is still available.

The steel is unfortunately not the best as i lose my edges fairly quickly maybe one or two skates worth of use and need them redone again. However thats about the only downside.

I would recommend these after using them for a full year and they STILL look immaculate.
