This is the area where a LOT of contact is happening from sticks and pucks - don't skimp on shin pads, because it will catch up with you. All shin pads will give you a very good level of basic protection. At the youth level, make sure you know the fit you need - if the shin pads are too long, skates will push them up and potentially put the knee at risk. Too short and you risk exposure to the ankles.
