Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Beer League Pad with Modifications I hate playing with shoulder pads as they're generally too hot and get jammed up with the super high spinal protection of most pants. These pads are nice and short letting the beer belly breath. Additionally, the completely superfluous shoulder caps are easy to remove - creating a pad which is much lighter than anything on the market and provides better sternum protection than the old Coopers from the 80's (when I last played hockey where a shoulder pad should be considered required). My review is totally based on my modified version, I would try other pads if the shoulder cap is important for you as these are clunky/heavy with them, brilliant without. A true entry level pad like this does not require nearly 2" of foam and plastic - a 1/4" piece of plastic with 1/4" foam would be more than adequate.
