Rated 1 out of 5 by from CCM Knows Better! I have been officiating for over 20 years at all levels and have tried almost all of the ref gear made. If it seems these CCM built-in pants get terrible reviews, there's a number of reasons. I owned them for a while and thought they had great potential for built-ins, but they had some flaws that simply cannot be overlooked. The most obvious flaw is the CCM logo on the front of the pants just below the knee! This is a completely inappropriate location for a logo for any self-respecting ice hockey official that values a professional appearance. They look like roller blade or BMX pants with this logo placement. What's shocking is that CCM is the gold standard for traditional appearance referee uniforms and invented the clean professional look for referees. Why stray from that on its version of the built-in pants? The other major flaw are front pockets that are way too tight. You cannot take your whistle in and out of the front pocket as you normally would during a game for altercations, etc. They are sewn tight and shallow, unlike traditional CCM referee pants and other built-ins. The final and less serious flaw is the old fashioned snap waist closure which offers no flexibility like Stevens and Combat pants when reaching down to retrieve the puck. The padding on these pants is mediocre. No kidney/back protection and no slash guards on the back of the calf like Stevens/Combat. I will say, they have really good tailbone protection with the hard plastic insert. But that's about its only positive feature. CCM knows better than this and should step-up its game on the built-on market. And, keep the logos where they belong!

DO THESE PANTS HAVE SHIN PROTECTION?

ARE THESE MADE TO WEAR YOUR OWN SHIN GUARDS WITH OR DO THEY HAVE BUILT IN SHIN PROTECTION? THANKS!
Asked by: Anonymous
No, these pants do not have shin protection built in them. You can wear your own shins but be sure to get a pant size that will allow your shins to fit underneath.
