Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfort AND performance! So I've had my CCM U+CLs for about 6 years now they have just recently started to break down a bit on me. The liner in the Achilles guard area has started wrinkling and wearing away which has been causing painful blisters and the Achilles guard itself has begun to give and wobble a bit, lace bite has been a reoccurring issue, and my arches have been screaming in them lately. I started shopping around a bit online and was thrilled to find a pair of CCM skates that incorporated two of my favorite features ever that I thought were long gone: the pump and the lace lock. I went to Total Hockey that night to try these babies on and it may have been the best decision in my life. I just used my new skates for the first time at practice last night and holy cr@p; these are amazing. First of all, I have NEVER worn such a comfortable skate in my life. I was nervous these skates wouldn't work out for me because the staff member said that they are a narrow fit. I have extremely flat feet and have only ever had luck with CCM or RBK skates. Bauer is painfully narrow on me and I have never been able to comfortably wear a pair. I was ecstatic when I tried these on and had absolutely zero issues. No pressure points, no rubbing, no pinching or tightness. It was like wearing a perfectly snug little hug on my foot. The toe box was nice and wide, there was no straining/tightness in the arch area, the heel area felt just narrow enough to secure and lock my foot in, and the tongue felt nice and snug but cushy and thick. I only had to add a couple pumps from the air pump and I was set. As with any new pair of skates, I was dreading the first actual on ice session with them fearing the typically painful break in process. I even brought my old skates out to the bench with me just in case I needed a break from the expected pain. Amazingly I was able to skate 3 whole hours in these skates with no issues whatsoever. They already felt broken in and ready to go, they are that comfortable! I cannot get over how amazing these felt on my feet. Side note: I needed a half size smaller than what they had in stock of this skate so for sizing purposes my sales guy had me try on the size I needed but in the model below this skate (I think it was the Ribcor 48K). I cannot believe how uncomfortable that model was compared to these. Do yourself a favor and just invest in these. Yeah they cost more but you will be kicking yourself if you don't. The unparalleled comfort is worth it! Ok, onto actual performance of these. When CCM advertises these as "turn on a dime", they mean it. I am not stupid enough to believe that buying a new pair of skates will turn me into an Olympic skater but I truly felt a huge difference in my agility and turning with these skates. The Achilles guard and the runners themselves felt like they sit a bit more forward pitched than my old skates so they really forced me to get down lower and I feel like that made all the difference. I noticed that whenever I got lazy and tried to get away with not getting as low that my legs (calf muscles specifically) started feeling really fatigued. As soon as I got low again, the fatigue would subside. It took a bit to get used to it but if it's helping me both establish better habits of staying low and executing tighter turns as well then I can't complain! The main difference I felt between these and my old skates is that these are noticeably heavier but my old skates are called Crazy Lights after all so it's not like this is a shocking revelation. Lastly, I just have to talk about how fly these skates look. When it comes down to it I will always pick function/comfort over the look of a skate (I hope everyone does) but it always a win when you can find a skate with both performance and an appealing look. I originally wanted the LE version of this skate but they were only available online and the regular ones were on $100 off in store only so I settled for the regular black ones and bought a new stick as well with that extra $100. I still wish I could've gotten the LEs but the black ones are still pretty cool. I like that they are all black with no flashy colors or insets; they look kinda old school and I love that. The black blade adds a nice touch as well and even a few of my teammates noticed them. I'm really happy with the classic look of this skate. Overall, I cannot think of a single complaint about these skates. I still cannot believed I found the complete package: comfort, performance, and a classic look. I am extremely happy with my CCM Ribcor 50Ks.
