The XR Pro Custom 7 Series line is unique in that it offers a limited number of Vaughn's most popular custom colors and construction options to the XR line of gear at a significantly reduced price. Though this line is made overseas, it uses high quality, domestically made materials - most of which are found in Vaughn's pro level, domestically constructed products. Finally, customers can now get a custom-made, high quality pad at an overseas pad price!
New for 2016, the XR Velocity 7 Leg Pad replaces the 1100 Velocity 6 model from 2014. Though the XR Pro shares some design characteristics with the XR Pro Carbon, several internal foam and exterior construction characteristics make this a much different pad.
The biggest enhancement for 2016 is the new internal "Pro Core" design, which consists of a full length and width ultra high density foam core sheet that helps the pad maintain its shape over time and also extends to the edges of pad to create a more firm perimeter blocking surface. The thigh rise design has also been "over squared" for 2016 to insure that it fills the upper section of the pad to that 11" max width and also reduces the five-hole openings when in the butterfly position.
On the inside edge, the pad seams have been modified so that no binding is exposed, and the majority of the HD foam edge is completely flat to make sliding very easy. The landing gear at the knee and the knee risers are combined into one solid block and incorporated to the inside edge for better pad response and a more ergonomic knee position in the butterfly.
The knee cradle and leg channel have a wider design for both comfort and quicker pad rotation. The knee lock is wide in the XR, and the integrated knee/thigh protector has been moved higher up the thigh rise to provide better knee protection and more room in the knee area. The outside knee cradle pad features a hinged design and a lowered, dual elastic strap position that runs under the bend in your knee rather than directly behind it. For 2016, the calf-wraps have been extended somewhat to provide better wrap around protection to the leg.
The straps are all made of leather (two nylon webbing thigh and knee straps are optional), and the knee area features an elongated adjustable buckle tab that allows the goalie to fine tune the strapping setup based on his/her individual style of play. The boot channel has a shallow depth to it, and the goalie can choose from a sliding toe bridge, a regular toe bridge, or an offset toe bridge option.
Finally, new graphics have been introduced to make them more consistent with the graphics in the other lines. This way, goalies can now mix and match their favorite pieces of Vaughn gear and still maintain a consistent look.

The Key factor is the overall length. The length can be divided into three sections:

The proper length of the goal pad boot is determined by the goalie's skate size. The next key area is the instep to knee that determines the shin length. Finally, the knee to top or thigh rise is a personal measurement depending on how much pant and pad overlap the goaltender prefers. A general rule is 7" to 8".
A.Skates size: provide the skate size for proper boot fit.
B.Instep to knee: measure from instep to the front center of kneecap while leg is in slightly bent position.
C. Thigh rise: measure from front center of kneecap up the thigh to desire height.
A + B + C = Estimated size of pad
If fitted properly, the goalie's knee should rest directly behind the center knee roll with the pad securely attached to the goal skate and properly strapped on the goaltender's leg. Generally, this will ensure that the pad breaks (bends) at the knee/shin and ankle as designed for optimal performance.
