Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top of the Line Protection Was in the market for new shin pads for various reasons, not the least of which is that after tearing my ACL for a second time and having the surgery, I decided that a custom heavy duty brace was a must for me to continue playing. So out of a shin, I needed/wanted top of the line protection for my knees, something with sufficient room to accommodate the brace I now wear on one leg but hopefully not be too bulky otherwise, and still offer some of the weight saving advantages of modern technology. I tried MANY makes/models that just weren't right for one reason or another, then gave this a shot. It's everything I needed/wanted. Have taken numerous slappers, slashes, full body weight falls from being tripped, etc. and haven't felt a thing. It accommodates my brace well, and I don't feel like there's any additional bulk there on the leg on which I don't wear a braces. And despite the extra protection these offer over some other makes/models, I also haven't noticed even the slightest restriction in my movement at all -- and they still feel lighter than shins I used previously (granted, they were 10-12 years old). Make no mistake, there are lighter/sleeker models out there these days for sure. But these are fantastic, suit my needs perfectly and give me the confidence to just play without worry -- I can honestly say they have allowed me to continue playing the game when other options didn't work. Professional level max protection without hindering whatever shiftiness I had, and even $50 or so less expensive than the top of the line offerings in other Bauer lines and from competitors. Couldn't be happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elite protection, comfort and maneuverability. So...here's the shot...I've been playing in Vapor 1X pads, which are super-light, sleek, and comfortable, but...I play D. I've been noticing that on really hard shots and big hits...I feel it. More significantly, when I drop to my knees (deliberate shot blocking or resulting from a hit) that the shock goes right through the kneecaps to my lower back and neck. I decided to try these out as they seemed to be beefier, but a little less so than the Super Tacks AS-1 (which in fairness...I've only tried in a store). Last night I played in these 2N's and I am impressed. When I unboxed them, I'll admit I was concerned as they felt a bit heavier and bulkier than the 1X's (cuz they are), but on the ice...they were incredibly comfortable. It took a little figuring out how to get the calf strap in the right spot. I just seemed way to short I couldn't get a good wrap. When I moved it around...I found a good spot. If you have big calf muscles (I guess most of us do), and you're bigger than me (5'9" 172) you may need to get a shoemaker to put an extension on that strap...I just made it. Anyway, as a puck moving D, skating with them was very comfortable. They didn't shift at all (which my Vapors do...a little), I didn't notice the difference in bulk or weight, and the protection is truly elite. I took several big shots and felt nothing. Even better, I got decked from behind in the crease (2 minutes...thank you ref) and also felt no shock transmission through the pads. I also felt more stable laterally while I was down, which made getting back up fast much easier. Any drawbacks? Nothing significant really. They do play a bit warmer than the Vapors, but nowhere near as warm as say...older DR Centurion (awesome protection...waaaay to bulky and hot) or Jofa 3175's (nice pads but not much side or rear protection...and not flexible). I am very happy with the decision to go with these...they're everything I hoped they would be with none of the potential drawbacks I thought might be part of the package!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get these shinnies!! Great fit, great protection, very comfortable and durable. I went to these after a pair of Supreme shinnies took a slap shot to the kneecap... these are by far a better fit and feel, to me anyway, than the Supreme plus, I really like the removable liner for keeping my gear clean, maintained and smelling good!!
