The Bauer Vapor X500 youth ice hockey skate is designed for the intermediate-level player who would benefit from increased power and protection in a Vapor skate already made for speed and quickness.

  • 3-D TrueForm Tech PU quarter package for thermoformable, stiff protection with a custom fit
  • Tuuk LightSpeed Pro and LS1 steel for durable performance
  • Center-tongue mid-density foam and metatarsal guard for protection
  • Hydrophobic microliner for secure, dry comfort
  • TPR outsole for stiff performance
  • Lightweight memory foam ankle pads for customized, contoured support and comfort

The Vapor X500 comes with the Tuuk LightSpeed Pro steel holder. The Pro model holder is based on the LightSpeed Edge model, the most popular in the NHL today, the main difference being that blades are not replaceable in the Pro holder. The blade in the X500 youth skate is the Tuuk super stainless steel blade for long-lasting durability and bite. The holder connects to Bauer’s TPR outsole, which offers the intermediate skater a nice, stiff base of support for enhanced power transfer.

The X500 youth outsole supports a quarter package consisting of Bauer’s 3-D TrueForm Tech with PU technology. The Trueform Tech boot offers intermediate skaters the stiffness they need, but enough flex for them to master their stride. The quarter package will also give them plenty of support and protection. The boot is thermoformable, so a young player will enjoy the kind of post-baking custom fit the pros do.

The tongue in the X500 youth skate is a white felt model that offers lots of mid-density foam—it’s not only very comfortable, but also helps lock the young skater’s foot into the boot for increased control. The center metatarsal guard protects the foot against stray pucks, unwanted slashes, and lace bite—a common problem with low-volume skates like the Vapor.

Inside the boot, Bauer uses a hydrophobic microliner. The microfiber liner has a tacky texture that secures the young skater’s foot inside the boot, helping them correctly transfer energy, and wicking away moisture for a secure, comfortable, and dry fit. Beneath the liner are a set of lightweight, memory foam ankle pads that will shape to the asymmetrical contours of the player’s ankle after the skates are baked. This customization process will help lock the feet into the boot, provide plenty of secure protection, and drastically reduce break-in time. The X500, like all Vapor skates, is a low-volume skate. For the player with a narrow forefoot or shallow heel, the Vapor X500 should provide an excellent fit.

The Bauer Vapor X500 youth skate offers the intermediate-level player a lot of features for the money. While not as heavily loaded as the 1X youth skate, the X500 skate costs less and will perform admirably for the young skater still figuring out their skating technique.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bauer x500 Ice Skates I finally convinced myself to buy new skates after 11 years (I had Easton Stealth S7s) and couldn't have been more satisfied! I was so nervous that it would take forever to get used to the new ones but I was completely wrong! I played in a tournament with them after skating in them only once and they felt completely comfortable and I definitely felt like I could skate faster. The skates are light and fit perfectly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Skate I hae had these skates for the last three months and I am pretty satisfied with them. The boot ot the skate is nice and snug and my ankles never move thanks to the padding around the ankle area. My only complaint is the blades of the skate. The stainless steel blades seem to rust easier then I expected. They also seem to need sharpened more and more. the edges dull out a little too quickly but they work surprisingly well, so just a forewarning. Its a good skate, just be prepared to sharpen then a little more often.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great so far So far I love these skates. I tried supremes but the vapors just fit my feet better. Better liners and support unlike supremes that wrecked my feet. I almost switched to ccm but glad I just went back to vapors instead of supremes. I'll post another review on durability later.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased for 12 year old son Went from CCM Ribcor (which he absolutely obliterated) to these. They fit his feet well right out of the box, so I've yet to bake them. Break-in took a good 5 to 10 hour-long skates. He skates hard, plays house league, stick and puck 3 times a week, and open skate 3 or 4 times a week...so he's always on the ice. He adores these skates, loves them with a 3/8" cut. While we've only had them a month, they seem solid so far. Can't beat the price for the Tuuk blade holder/removable runners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent skate for the price This is my first go at a Bauer skate. I came from an old school Reebok 7K skate that I broke 2 holders on within a few games. Its almost impossible to find the 280mm holder I needed so I decided to just get new skates. Went to the location in Cherry Hill, NJ. They guy that helped me out measured me and made a few suggestions. I tried on the Supreme, the Vapor, and a Ribcore. The Vapors felt the best out of the box. They baked them and cut them for me at purchase. 1st time using them was for one of my beer league games. That was a rough game as they were extremely stiff. My feet hurt after the first skate. I have skated on them twice since and they are starting to feel a lot better. I feel I can turn, stop and accelerate better with these than my Reeboks. So far they are holding up well, the steel is still nice and sharp with my 9/16th cut they bite just right for me. I am happy with my purchase at this point. It doesn't hurt I used $40 in rewards points towards this purchase as well. My team uses this store quite often and they always seem to have a good experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great skate for a starter Just got into ice skating and hockey recently at 27 and decided to pick up my own pair cause my abnormally large feet made it hard to find a pair of rentals to learn in. Went and got sized at a local Pure Hockey store and was set up with a pair of these in 12D. After a good bake and about 3 hours ice time so far in them and I get a little arch pain, which is to be expected with new skates apparently, but other than that they're extremely comfortable. Highly recommended.

Do I order skates by shoe size or skate size?

Asked by: DUSTIN88
You would be ordering the skate size online. The skate size is typically about 1.5 sizes below your shoe size. This means somebody with a 9.5 shoe would typically be an 8 skate. Thanks!

My local store doesn't seem to have this item. If I order a pair on-line, can I get them baked and sharpened at my local pure hockey?

Asked by: BillA
You sure can! If you order online from Purehockey.com and bring your new skates into a Pure Hockey store we can bake and sharpen your skates just like you would get if you bought them in-store. Thanks!

my son is 10 years old with a size 6 sneaker any estimate as to what size skate he might be?

Asked by: cptets
Skate sizes are typically 1.5 sizes down from the shoe size. It is always recommended to get your foot fit for skates by a professional.
