Shin Guards

Protects lower leg and knee

  • Knee sits in the center of the cap.
  • The bottom of the shin guard should fit just above the foot and lay under the skate tongue.

Hockey Socks

Covers the shin guards

  • They can be held in place with a garter or Velcro tabs on jock/jill shorts.
  • Some players wrap tape around the outside of the sock to help hold the shin guard in place.

Pants

Protects hips, thighs and tailbone

  • The bottom of the pant should touch the top of the player's kneecap.
  • Suspenders can be purchased if the pants are still too loose from tie string and belt.

Skates

Snug fit ensures maximum performance

  • Skates should fit tighter than tennis shoes, but don’t tie them too tight around the ankles to allow proper flexion.
  • Have patience. They will take at least 8 hours of use to break in.

Shoulder Pads

Protects the collar bone, upper chest, back, upper arms and shoulders

  • The player’s shoulder should sit in the center of the shoulder cap.
  • Shoulder pads should fit like a comfortable tee shirt with very little hindrance to range of motion.

Elbow Pads

Protects the arm between the shoulder pads and the gloves

  • The bent elbow should rest in the center of the cap.
  • Wear them as tight as possible without pinching.

Gloves

Protect hands, fingers and wrists

  • Measure from the base of the fingers to the bend in the elbow.
  • Your fingers should have 1/4” or less room to the tip of the glove.

Helmet (w/Facemask)

Protects the face, jaw and head

  • Helmets should fit snugly over the head with little wiggle room when the chin is in the mask cup.
  • Adjust using the tool-free clips on the sides, as well as the chin straps.

Stick

Proper length is the key to performance

  • Standing tall in shoes, the end of the stick should be between the player’s chin & nose if the tip of the blade is on the floor and the stick is straight up.
  • If a player has their left hand on top, they shoot right.
