Like all composite sticks, intermediate sticks are made from various lightweight, high-tech materials designed to improve flexibility, kick point, and energy transfer. Intermediate hockey sticks are the size between junior and senior, usually suited for females because of the thinner shaft, or males ages 10–15.
Most players should be at least about 4’6” and 120 lbs to use an intermediate hockey stick. Hockey stick sizing depends on several variables, but to know for certain whether you’re tall enough, first stand without skates. Then, place the toe of the hockey stick on the ground between your feet, positioning the stick vertically. The end of the intermediate hockey stick should come to about your nose if it’s the right size.
As a rule of thumb, players 4’6”–5’3”, aged 10–15 and in the 120–160 lb. weight range, should use an intermediate hockey stick.
Intermediate hockey sticks are generally 55”–57” long.
