A junior hockey stick is a smaller version of a senior or intermediate stick, designed to fit players in the 3’9”–4’9” range, typically ages 7–12. Junior sticks typically include similar features and materials as their adult-sized counterparts to help younger players develop their skills for higher levels of play.
To size your junior composite stick, first stand without skates. Then, place the toe of the hockey stick on the ground between your feet, positioning it vertically. The end of a junior hockey stick should come to about your nose if it’s the right size. Most players should be at least about 3’9” tall and weigh 50 lbs. to use a junior hockey stick.
Pure Hockey offers junior composite hockey sticks suited for ages 7-12.
Junior hockey sticks are usually 50”–54” tall. If you’re happy with your junior stick but need to make it a little longer, use a composite stick accessory like an extension or end plug.
A youth or junior hockey stick will fit a 7-year-old, depending on the child’s height and weight. For length, the stick should reach just under your child’s chin while they are wearing skates. If they’re not wearing skates, the stick should reach the nose. For flex, the number will be around half your child’s body weight. So, if your kid weighs 60 pounds, start with a 30 flex. These measurements will give you an idea of which size stick is appropriate for your 7-year-old.
