The Bauer 2018 Nexus N2700 ice hockey skate is a smart choice for the intermediate performance-level player who needs a high-volume skate with plenty of top-end features. The intermittent pond hockey hero or casual men’s league warrior will appreciate the plush but stable and secure fit at a price that won’t knock them out of the game.
The quarter package of the N2700 is a 3-D injected core with the Trueform tech PU. The 3-D core provides an anatomical shape so the skate fits the natural curves of the foot right out of the box. It also provides surprising stiffness for a mid-level skate, giving developing skaters plenty of power as they master their stride.
The interior of the N2700 features a 2-piece, 40-oz. black felt tongue with moderate center thickness for comfortable, long-lasting wear. The tongue includes an injected plastic metatarsal guard insert to help protect against pucks, slashes, and lace bite so players can be as aggressive as they want to be with less fear of foot injuries.
The N2700 interior also features a moisture-wicking microfiber blue liner with memory foam ankle pads that will keep a skater’s feet comfortable and dry. The microfiber creates a soft feel but the ankle pads will lock in a skater’s heel for excellent stability.
The footbed inside Bauer’s N2700 is the Form-Fit EVA that shapes to the contours of the skater’s foot, reducing the negative space inside the boot while helping to provide a stable support for increased power transfer when striding.
The injected TPR outsole offers a moderate level of stiffness for players still developing their stride—the skate outsole isn’t so torsionally stiff a younger skater will have to fight the skate.
The TPR outsole of the N2700 joins to the Tuuk Lightspeed Edge holder. Tuuk’s Lightspeed Edge is the most popular holder in the NHL right now due to its quick-release trigger system that allows skaters to swap out their blades in mere seconds. Quick replacements mean more time on the ice and less time picking up slivers on the bench.
Bauer’s Nexus N2700 is a great mid-level skate that provides a lot of top-end quality sure to please the performance-level, recreational athlete. The thermoformable and memory foam features provide much of the customized comfort of more expensive skates but at a price point designed to get skaters into the game. When you lace up a pair of N2700s, you’ll experience all the innovative design features and reliably explosive power knowledgeable skaters have come to expect from Bauer.
