Take all the features and technologies that make Vapor skates great, upgrade them, and combine them into an aesthetically pleasing, pro-level package, and you’ve got the latest Bauer Vapor S17 1X ice hockey skate. The 1X brings a little of the NHL to the local rink for elite- to pro-level players who demand the best features and technologies a pair of skates can offer.

  • Tuuk LightSpeed Edge for trigger-quick blade replacement
  • Carbon composite, vented outsole for dry, breathable support
  • 3-D Lasted Curv Composite quarter package for lightweight, rigid support
  • Asymmetric quarter dimensions for anatomical power generation
  • Curv Composite ankle support
  • FlexLock Pro tongue with thermoformable composite center for custom impact protection
  • LockFit dual-zone liner with Anaform ankle pads for comfort and foot stability

The top-line Vapor 1X hockey skate includes the Tuuk LightSpeed Edge holder, the most popular holder in the NHL right now, thanks to Tuuk’s innovative trigger-release system. Now a player can change blades in seconds, for more time on the ice and less time on the bench. The Tuuk holders are also three millimeters taller this year in both front and rear posts, for an improved turning radius.

The holder is attached to a fully carbon composite, vented outsole. The carbon composite is extremely lightweight and rigid, for excellent energy transfer. The innovative bottom vents—used only in the 1X line—allow moisture to drain during the game and help the skates to dry quickly after the game’s over.

The Vapor 1X quarter package is Bauer’s very stiff yet lightweight 3-D Lasted Curv Composite material. The Carbon Curv is also highly thermoformable, so skaters will enjoy a contoured, custom fit after the skates are baked. The 1X quarter package features asymmetrical dimensions, where the inside of the boot extends farther than the outside for a better, anatomical fit around the ankle bones, which are themselves typically asymmetrical. Common sense design. Since much of a skater’s power derives from the inside of the foot, the new boot dimensions deliver a better base of support and improved energy transfer. Combined with the flexible tongue, the Vapor 1X quarter package promises skaters a better attack angle for maximum stride power.

The lace eyelet system in the top-end Vapor has also been updated for improved, locked-in stability. The top of the boot features a comfort edge wrap to reduce abrasions from the rigid 1X boot. And the 1X includes a Curv Composite ankle support—a feature found only in this skate—for a lighter, stiffer response.

The 1X tongue is a 3-piece, FlexLock Pro model with class-leading thickness and comfort. The newly added thermoformable composite material down the tongue center not only offers excellent impact protection, but also promises a custom fit once baked. The 1X comes with Bauer’s Lock-Fit Pro liner with memory foam padding for comfort. The slightly abrasive liner will help lock the skater’s foot to the boot, thanks to its dual-zone texture. The liner has a tacky upper for stability and a smoother lower portion for premium comfort.

There’s almost too much to say about the Vapor 1X. Bauer has put all its best, most innovative thinking into the top-end, elite model. Pro-level players will find a lot of value in all the design features and technological updates that help make the Bauer Vapor 1X skate one of the best money can buy.

SENIOR Hockey Skates
Senior hockey skates are sized to fit adults and full grown teenagers with a Men's US shoe size of 7 or greater.

JUNIOR Hockey Skates
Junior hockey skates are sized to fit kids in the range of approximately 8 to 12 years old with a US shoe size of 2 to 6.5.

YOUTH Hockey Skates
Youth hockey skates are sized to fit toddlers and young children in the age range of approximately 9 years old and younger with a US youth shoe size of 1.5 or smaller.

*Female Skaters*
The difference between men's shoes and women's shoes is 1.5 to 2 sizes. So, if you wear size 9 women's shoes, that translates to a men's size 7.5 or 7.0, which would put you in a size 6 senior hockey skate. More simply put, go 3 sizes down from your women's shoe size in order to find your hockey skate size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bauer 1X vs. Bauer Nexus 8000 vs. Bauer 1S In contrast to the 1X I had a pair of the MX3 LE from Bauer. After skating on the MX3 LE skates during a game(1) I suffered a tremendous amount of pain in both my left and right heels and my Achilles' tendon. I thought maybe a baking would alleviate the issue, so I decided to get them baked per the manufacturers recommendation under a Bauer representatives assistance. After a 24 hour waiting period post baking, I went on the ice again alas the pain and discomfort persisted. Now the 1X Vapor from Bauer. The first time on the ice was incredible! I was able to pivot quicker, transition from forward to backward incredibly easier, required less energy on my part to react to play, but seems that the skates are very similar to the Bauer Nexus 8000. I am able to use my inside edge easier because of the 1 X's staggered design. These are the best skates I've ever owned I would recommend them to anyone who ( assuming they are serious hockey players) wants to improve his/her game. Lastly, these will be the skates I'll be buried with, why? They cost well over 1k. I hav

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A symmetrical fit ... FINALLY YES Finally someone realized that the inner ankle bone and the outyer ankle bone are no symmetrical (inline with each other. My inner malleolar bone is a full 1.25" forward of my outer, meaning that the inner bone NEVER sat in the ankle pocket and very close to the eyelet holes. BAUER finally addressed that with the 1X (and I hope the other models as well in the future). My ankle now sits in the pocket and what a difference! Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding These skates are billed as offering superior comfort, stability, fit and performance, but casual players like myself are for some reason discouraged from using these. If these are the best (and they are!) what features would you want to sacrifice by going down the scale? I didn't see a reason to compromise, pulled the trigger on the top model and am very happy I did. After 3 years using another brand's boots, which felt like Mason jars on my feet, these were a revelation. On a first wear after baking, two and a half hours on ice caused no discomfort whatsoever. Extra 4mm of height on LS4 blades don't register - my old ones seem taller on side-by-side comparison. The support and locking in of the heal and entire foot are incredible. If the budget allows, I say get yourself measured by the Bauer computer and don't hesitate. Much recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the right fit. I've been waiting for these skates to go on sale for over a year now. Hands down the best pair I've ever owned. After twice baking I skated for an hour with no pain in my feet, which after 23 years of mid level and cheap skates that usually takes me a month to break in till the pain goes away. Would reccomend using the Bauer skate lab to get the best skates for you, it worked for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome skate These skates are amazing. Obviously you need to have a foot that fits a vapor boot but they don’t even compare to the other skates in the vapor line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing! I bought these from one of Pure Hockeys stores. The guy that helped me was very insightful and directed me to the right skates. They are really exspencive but it is well worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I have 5 sons and each one of them plays AAA so they need a great skate. This is just the one. We all went and each of them got this skate and they look sick. I got my oldest son 2 pairs of these and put roller blades on one so he can train off the ice.

Can I mount my Bauer roller chassis on these ?

Asked by: Batman77
Sure can! You would want to bring that to a Pro Shop for them to do it for you. Hopefully you are close to a Pure Hockey. Thanks!

are these for beginners, can a pure beginner start with these skates?

Asked by: Mark1962
Respectfully disagree with Tyler. How is superior comfort, quality and performance a drawback for anyone? I had the same reservations, being a casual player at best and, having bought these, could not be happier. I detected no feature in these 1x that would make it harder for me to skate; as a matter of fact I saw improvement in my skill right away.

Is the tongue able to be flopped on the 2017 1X's?

Asked by: Bauer4Life
You probably could, but the flex lock tongue is not designed to be flopped.

Has the toecap changed at all since last model's? The plastic edge dug into my foot pretty badly.. where the cap was sewed onto the boot. Hoping it was repositioned, widened, etc...?

Asked by: Josie27
The fit will be rather similar to the past gen 1X. If you need a wider toebox/forefoot I may suggest looking at the Supreme 1S

What is the weight compared to the 2015 model??

Asked by: James K
A few major differences. Those would be the new asymmetric quarter package. This means the outside of the skate will extend further compared to the inside. This helps with energy transfer and proper foot placement. We also have an updated eyelet system that will help with that foot lock everybody wants. Tongue will also be different with the new moldable material added for a true custom fit. Thanks!
