CCM Custom Mouth Guard - Junior

CCM SISU 1.6 Mouthguard

Three things that are key in contact team sports like hockey and lacrosse are protection, comfort, and communication. Traditional mouthguards may protect your teeth, but they aren't always comfortable, and they do also make it hard to talk to teammates during action. The CCM SISU Aero Guard 1.6 Mouthguard addresses all those issues by providing a lightweight, porous mouthguard that offers the protection of a traditional mouthguard. The CCM SISU 1.6 is only 1.6 mm thick and is easy to mold to your teeth. The most unique feature of the SISU 1.6 is that it features holes all over. This enables you to speak with your teammates during game play, as well as drink and breath seamlessly!

How To Fit

1.Wash your hands and the material with soap and water.

2.Heat water in small bowl (hot to the touch, but not boiling). Place the material into hot water until it turns transparent. Then lift it out of the water with a fork or your fingers.

3.Hold the soft material as shown in the picture. DO NOT LET IT FOLD! The material will glue together, making it hard to reshape.

4.Tilt the head back and open the mouth widely. Place the front teeth so they can gently bite down on the solid cross bar. Press the tongue against the palate. Most of the material should be on the outside of the teeth.

5.Use a mirror. Mold it against the front of the teeth with your fingertips and up on the sides to the gum line to create the shield. Make sure it covers the outside of the molars.

6.Close the lips over the mouth guard and gently create a suction until the material has hardened to get a snug fit. If you are not satisfied with the result just slip the mouth guard into the water, let it soften and straighten out . . . and start all over again.

To Fit With Braces

You can absolutely fit the SISU™ Mouth Guard with braces. However, we strongly advise you to take the mouth guard to your orthodontist or your dentist to get professional help in getting the best fit. He or she will use some kind of barrier against the brackets so that the material, while pliable, doesn’t bond. Typically a string of wax is used and placed against the teeth for a perfect fit.

SISU Mouth guards and Fixed Orthodontic Appliances (Braces)

•It is not recommended that patients form the SISU™ Mouth Guard themselves over orthodontic braces.

•If the SISU™ Mouth Guard is utilized over braces at a point where moderate tooth movement is taking place (often during the early stages of treatment), most likely the guard will only fit properly for a short period of time.

•Ideally, the mouth guard should be formed by the orthodontist at a point of the orthodontic treatment during which only minor tooth movement is taking place.

•Block-out material (a thinned piece of rope wax for example) must be used to avoid the mouth guard material engaging in the cervical/gingival edge of the bracket and wire.

•Despite the age of the patient, and "Adult" size mouth guard is recommended to have sufficient material to encompass the blocked-out braces.

•Excessive use of block-out material will result in a less retentive mouth guard.

•If the mouth guard is too retentive it may be adjusted simply by re-heating the guard in the specific problem area and adjusting it as needed.

•Instruct the patient to always remove the guard with care around the braces.
