Finding the right pair of new hockey skates for you is all about fit. If you’re unsure which skate line fits your foot best, or you’re looking for an accurate measurement, visit your local Pure Hockey.  CCM’s Ribcor skates are their high profile models, best suited for those with a high volume foot. But CCM has placed a focus on providing a flexible boot in the new Ribcor line, which makes the new 78K skate an excellent option for players with many different foot dimensions.

CCM includes their top-of-the-line 3-D lasted composite quarter package and Flexframe technology in the Ribcor 78K skate to create this flexible boot. Flexframe, based on industry leading biomechanics research conducted with top NHL players, provides excellent forward flexion to help skaters maximize energy transfer with every stride, creating more power and lateral stability.

Like the elite 80K model, the Ribcor 78K also includes CCM’s new holder system. The Speedblade Xchange System, or Speedblade XS, uses BladeLock technology consisting of a positive-lock mechanism that tightly secures the blade to the holder. This innovation allows energy to efficiently transfer from the boot to the blade for maximum striding, and also makes the process of swapping out a damaged or broken blade quick and easy. To make the switch, simply roll the BladeLock dial until you feel resistance, then pull the damaged blade out. Replace your runner in the holder and turn back the dial to fully lock in the new blade - then you’re ready to get back in the game.

Attached to the CCM’s innovative holder system is the Speeblade XS Stainless runner. This skate blade provides resistance to wear and corrosion while offering a long lasting edge for long-term performance, a key factor for those players who skate frequently and need their runners to be in great shape every time they hit the ice.

CCM also uses many top technologies inside the 78K boot. In the ankle, ADPT memory foam - symmetrical foam comfort pads - wrap anatomically around your foot for a personalized fit and enhanced comfort in this key area of the skate. For the liner in the senior model, CCM implements their TotalDri technology with Durazone abrasion protection for high-performing, moisture-wicking comfort to keep your feet dry and the skates light. And around the collar of the boot, Smooth Contour Pro pads provide added comfort and protection.

Other key features included in the 78K skate are the CCM anatomical response footbed for great comfort and support at the bottom of the boot; a concave reinforced injection outsole with exhaust system for a stiff profile that helps to generate increased energy transfer, and a 7-mm felt tongue with embossed lace-bit protection and reinforced layers for increased comfort and protection at the top of the skate.

With plenty of new technologies, the CCM Ribcor 78K skate proves to be an excellent option for the players who are looking for a high-end skate at a great value, with all the performance benefits they need to play their best.

SENIOR Hockey Skates
Senior hockey skates are sized to fit adults and full grown teenagers with a Men's US shoe size of 7 or greater.

JUNIOR Hockey Skates
Junior hockey skates are sized to fit kids in the range of approximately 8 to 12 years old with a US shoe size of 2 to 6.5.

YOUTH Hockey Skates
Youth hockey skates are sized to fit toddlers and young children in the age range of approximately 9 years old and younger with a US youth shoe size of 1.5 or smaller.

*Female Skaters*
The difference between men's shoes and women's shoes is 1.5 to 2 sizes. So, if you wear size 9 women's shoes, that translates to a men's size 7.5 or 7.0, which would put you in a size 6 senior hockey skate. More simply put, go 3 sizes down from your women's shoe size in order to find your hockey skate size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best skates in my life... I have worn "top of the line" skates for over 3 decades. My feet have changed shape and my "old skates" (worn 30 times), no longer fit at all. I got properly fitted to find out that my formerly narrow feet had transformed into "swim fins", and that CCM Ribcor skates were best suited for the shape of my foot. They are unbelievably great fitting skates which I will require to be buried with me when my time is up. Average heel, wide forefoot, and "low profile instep", I am happy as a clam. A 2 minute skate bake at the local shop, (Florida Everblades pro shop)....that's right, as in "two"...and my skates are "broken in" without losing its new, custom feel fit and support. The old 652s never felt this great. My foot width is "between D and E", so I don't have strange dimensions. I started skating when I was 3, hockey training at 6, and was an "all star" by 10, so I do know skates and skating. I highly recommend for those whose feet fit this shape of the last.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The Features Are There Bought these in February, then, COVID-19 hit. Got back on the ice after a long layoff and have struggled in these skates. They feel comfortable. However when skating the toe space seems to be too wide and the blades are not smooth. I thought it would get better after an Ortho cleared me to remove the Tier 3 knee brace off my right leg. It has helped a bit. I cannot totally blame the issues on the skates. I do know these skates have been difficult to break in, my ankle bone on my right leg is sore and I will probably have to sell these and step back into the skates I wore previously. I won’t say not to buy them as my right leg has some damage to it as that weighs in. However, with my last pair of skates it was easier for me to compensate for the damage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Skates The skates are amazing. Very comfortable fit, I skated in them for the first time last week. Like I had them for years. It will take a few more times to get used to the new fit, can't wait for tomorrow lunch hockey! Thanks to the guys at the Rockville MD store, excellent customer service!

I have skated in OLD CCM Tacks 652s, then transitioned to Reebok 10K pump, because the last/fit was similar. Is this skate similar in fit?

Asked by: OldTimeHockey70
This family(Ribcor) will be the most similar to what you had with the 10k skates. It has changed a little bit but it will be the closest you can get currently. Thanks!

How much do the size fours weigh in the 78k and in the 80k?

Asked by: Qhockey
The 80k is 725 grams. The 78k is just under 700 grams. The weight difference comes down to the steel but a 25-gram weight difference is very subtle so I wouldn't let the weight be my deciding factor. Thanks!
