The Tacks 9070 hockey skate comes with CCM SpeedBlade stainless steel runners in the SpeedBlade 4.0 holder, which boasts SpeedRib technology—a unique geometric design that harnesses the power of triangles to reduce torquing for greater stride-energy transfers. The concave shape in the injected TPU vented outsole provides additional stiffness and rigidity, to further improve stride-energy transfers. The outsole vent allows moisture and sweat to escape the boot for dry and cool comfort during the game, and a shorter dry time afterwards.
The quarter package is made in CCM’s RocketFrame Composite. This thermoformable, lightweight shell is a professional-grade specification—a nice feature for a mid-range price point. The new boot is more anatomically correct than previous models, thanks to CCM’s MetaFrame technology, a new molding process that results in a better fit. The eyelet angle, for example, better matches the natural bend of the skater’s foot and ankle. And the overall skate is more durable, with lots of double-stitching and structural improvements in the eyelets, tendon guard, and tongue.
The top of the quarter package comes with Smooth Contour collar pads. These pads help reduce pesky high-ankle abrasions—a useful feature in a stiff boot like the Tacks 9070. The double-stitched tongue is a 7mm, center-injected, white felt model. The center-injected foams offer reliable protection against stray pucks and slashes, while the embossed lace-bite guard not only reduces lace bite, but better positions the laces for a tight, accurate wrap.
The liner comes with DuraZone abrasion patches to extend the liner life for players who wear their shin guards under the skate tongue. The HD Microfiber in the liner is durable and wicks unvented moisture from the foot. The insole on the Tacks 9070 is CCM’s vented Anatomical Response model for additional interior dry comfort and support. The Tacks 9070, like all Tacks skates, is a medium-volume skate. If you have standard dimensions in the toe, arch, and heel, the Tacks line of skates promises a great fit.
With all the elite-level performance features CCM includes in this mid-range skate, the Tacks 9070 could deke you into thinking you’re wearing something top-end. The 9070 is a great crossover, packed with plenty of pleasing features that make it an exceptional value.
